Reductions in the Laser Welding Deformation of STS304 Cylindrical Structure Using the Pre-Stress Method

Welding deformation occurs due to non-uniform thermal expansion, contraction, restraint, and phase transformation in a metal by local welding heat source. This causes problems such as low buckling strength the reduced workability of production process. Correcting deformations stainless steel using heat—such linear heating—causes sensitization, which should be avoided. Herein, was applying tension stress instead correcting heating. A deformation-prevention jig used reduce during manufacturing cylinder made STS304 laser welding. The tensile induced pushing shell outward jig. thermo-elastoplastic analysis performed investigate effects magnitude on deformation. Furthermore, parametric results—which indicated reduction deformation—were verified through experiments. suggested that did not occur when approximately 50% yield base metal. Moreover, experimentally 11–20% 30 MPa applied cylinder, compared with absence stress.
